What Makes Dial Direct Funeral Insurance Different?

Dial Direct has updated its funeral cover to include coverage for different causes of death – from natural death to life-threatening diseases like COVID-19 and HIV. Its pricing plan offers different options for the amount of money that will be paid out in the event of the policyholder’s death. These options are called “Benefit Cover Options” and policyholders can easily navigate through the options to pick the one that suits their unique individual and family needs and preferences.

Dial Direct Funeral Insurance Coverage Options and Benefits

Dial Direct Funeral Cover

Dial Direct offers comprehensive funeral cover. This policy provides several benefits, including coverage for death due to natural or accidental causes, HIV/AIDS, and Covid-19. In addition, the policy provides a repatriation benefit that enables the next of kin to choose the burial location and funeral home, and the remains will be sent to the chosen funeral home closest to the cemetery if both death and burial occur within South Africa’s borders.

The policy is available in two categories – Individual Cover and Family Cover. The Individual Cover provides a range of benefit cover options from R5,000 to R30,000, and if additional members such as domestic workers or parents are added, the individual cover band may be selected. On the other hand, the Family Cover offers six different plans – Plan A to Plan F, with benefit cover options ranging from R5,000 to R30,000 for the policyholder (including spouse) and R750 to R25,000 for children and stillborns.

If the assured life passes away as a result of suicide or attempted suicide within the first 12 months from the policy commencement date, regardless of whether it was caused by temporary or permanent insanity, mental illness, or the influence of drugs or alcohol, the policy will not provide any cover or benefits.

Dial Direct only accepts claims that are submitted within six months of the assured individual’s death. When submitting a claim for funeral benefits, it is important to include several pieces of documentation. These include certified copies of the identity documents for both the life assured and nominated beneficiary, as well as proof of identity for each of them. The policy schedule and a fully completed DHA 1663 form (notification of death form) must also be included.  Proof of the beneficiary’s banking details and a bank statement from the past month should be submitted. In cases where no beneficiaries exist, a letter of executorship from the high court is necessary. If the death of the life assured was due to unnatural causes, an official police report will be required. Finally, the insurer may request any other documentary proof that they deem necessary.

If you’re considering a funeral plan with Dial Direct, it’s important to note that there is a waiting period of six months and six paid premiums before coverage becomes active. However, if you’re specifically concerned about accidental death coverage, it’s good to know that there is no waiting period for this type of claim, as long as you’ve paid your first premium.
